La vigilia della battaglia - On the eve of battle

Now less than a week to the big clash!
Last night we worked from 9 pm to 3 am to finish the table and placing the units.

With a little help from my friend...

Well, it is a little less hot and went back to work. Within three days, with the decisive help of Claudio to brushes, we have almost finished the battlefield. Even if the paint is still drying, I could not resist to the temptation to take some pictures and post them here. Still lacks most of the trees and the villages, but the worst is over. We are very satisfied with the result!

Alte temperature - High temperatures

Lithuanian and Guard Uhlans
Big Old man: Mr. Kutuzov

It seems that this is the hottest summer in the history: today I'd liked to continue to prepare for the diorama of Borodino, but the heat (35 ° C) and humidity will not let me leave the house. So, locked in my room, in the dark, I continue to paint miniatures. Russian, Russians, Russian ... but not only ....

To pass the time, here's my workbench with
Russian generals and Uhlans, and some infantry and artillery of Wurttemberg just finished.

I lavori sul campo... - The field works...

So, I started working on the table that will be the battlefield. At the scale of 1 cm = 28 mt, the pitch will be 3 meters long and 180 cm wide. The worktops are made from high density polystyrene panels: there will be three levels, one of which is the basis and in which is engraved the river. The pieces are cut with a knife, glued with white glue and sanded. This is the result after two Sundays of work: there is still a section of length (60 cm) and the hills have not been yet sanded.

Besides you can see the Great Redoubt, containing 3 bases = 18 artillery guns, as it was in reality.

PS I suggest you look at this blog: the author has reconstructed the Russian redoubts in 6 mm scale. They are wonderful!

Ed adesso... il campo di battaglia. And now... the battlefield.

Great battles in miniature

As we continue to paint the miniatures to play with and to train the players, it's time to start building what will be the battlefield, trying to represent as much as possible the same as that we suppose to be at the time. The affair promises to be titanic because we cannot find detailed maps of those times, with contour lines and well-defined terrain features .

A discrete satellite photos of the current situation is this:

However, the situation must be a little changed from 1812, with more roads and, perhaps, more woods, but certainly less wetlands.

At present, the best maps of 1812 seems to be this:

However, some aspects remain unclear, such as, for example the cover of the woods. Taking a look at some websites we have found some dioramas based on probably the best sources, we find most interesting information:

Well, now I would say that we have a decent base to work with ....

Aquile sopra Mosca - Eagles over Moskow

Gone are the tests of regulation play, the final version was compiled and the final rule set, a simplified and limited adaptation to the French and Russian armies of "L'Aigle", which is now called "Eagles over Moscow."
